Creatively curious, Ratika Singh extracts magic from the mundane. Ratika’s images, informed by patient process, offer compassionate yet startling perspectives.
Her photographic oeuvre ranges from real life reportage, thoughtful portraits, to meditative landscapes. Bold and playful engagement with the abstract is subtly honed into fine art.
Ratika consciously uses elements of visual storytelling in her compositions, which make for compelling narratives. Her concern is with exploring places, cultures, and all creatures great and small. Capturing glorious moments in nature that sometimes last a few micro seconds and sometimes an eternity, her photographs inspire a reflective pause from viewers speeding their lives through fast paced urban jungles.
A trained filmmaker from the Srishti Institute of Art Design and Technology, Ratika’s short film “Basheera” received special mention when screened at the IAWRT Film Festivals in 2015.
Ratika has pioneered an innovative Arts Residency at Preetnagar set in the historic and rural environs of Preetnagar, (Dist. Amritsar) in Punjab. Her images have been published on the cover of the heritage Punjabi literary journal “Preetlari”.
Ratika introduced photography as a meaningful tool for grass root level participation and articulation in the UN led campaign of “Violence Against Women # VAW across 20 villages in Punjab. ( Supported by the Canada Funds for Local Initiatives, MBCT & PGIMER.)
Through her company “Lightbug” Ratika co-designs and conducts specialized photography workshops sensitively taking on board the art and science of the medium. She believes that teaching and learning go hand in hand.
